College’s Controversial Subjects
I had some expectations of college before I began my studies. One of them was political correctness. I imagined the professors, textbooks, staff, and activites to follow the moral majority.
So, I found it interesting when my two English textbooks used controversial subjects. Last semester, a “faggot’s” story of teasing when he was a child. His memoir. He used the words fuck and tits in his story. I was shocked. Not because I find any of these words offensive, just that it wasn’t politically correct.
Then this semester’s English textbook talks of Sally Mann. A photographer who takes controversial pictures of her children. Not the usual pictures (happy, smiley, clean faces). She takes pictures of her kids when they grab themselves, or get bloody noses, or wet the bed. It just surprises me.
I loved the faggot’s story, in fact, it made me cry. And the dirty kids photos don’t look dirty to me. They look cute. Children doing what children do. Could you imagine these kinds of things in a public high school? Holy shit. Parents would go nuts!
I’ve also noticed less structure in the classroom format. Instead of the teacher telling me what, in fact, is going on, she asks me “what do you think?” Really? You mean there isn’t a right or wrong answer? How can that be?
By the way, I’m at school right now and the computer I usually use is occupied by someone else. Which blows because my math homework program is installed on that computer. Dang it. Maybe I should start farting to entice her to exit.

I wish tests had no right or wrong answer damn it. I just took my first spanish test of the semester. I hope to get a C. I’ll let you know. I want to see these photos. Are they in a text or can I access them online? Let me know the information to get to them either way.
I just did a google image search for Sally Mann. Here it is if you just want a quick link.
wow, interesting. The one with the candy cigarette is such a gorgeous photo! p.s. I failed my stupid spanish test
