Usually when I give directions to someone, I try to keep it short. I hate getting the directions from people that say “Okay, now you’re going to pass a church, then you’re getting close. And soon you’ll see a McDonald’s, and go past that.” I just want to know when to turn.
Travel east on this road, turn left on this road, take a right at this road, last house on the left. Easy.
Well, the roads around my house don’t have any names. They’re kind of like mile-long driveways. Everyone is considered to live on the same road. So here are my directions:
From town, turn left on old first road, left at the red hay barn, right at the T, left up the steep hill – we’re the only house once you finally get to the top.
Well, they don’t seem so weird now. What do your directions sound like?

“Okay, it’s really easy. Way easier than the rest of Madison. Just keep going down University and turn right on Allen by the Imperial Garden. Go down the hill. You have to do a u-turn to get into my drive so at Lakeview turn left and do the u-turn. You’ll see the garages with roofs like barns, turn right in the drive.”
Does this mean I can crash at your place on my way to Wisconsin?
Heck yes!
Thanks Carol, but I was asking Jenn.
Oh, I thought you asked Carol also. Do you live west of Montana? I thought you lived east of Wisconsin. Yes, please get in touch with me if you head this way. I can hook you up with all the sporting activities that bring guys outdoors. Hunting, fishing, hiking, rafting, biking, and horse riding – oh yeah, my niece boards her new horse at my house! I should blog about that.
Cool. I’m sooooo stopping in on my way through. I was going to go yesterday, but I’m out of money. I live in Seattle by the way.
