Merry Christmas from Outer Space

I decided to write this post in the spirit of my last post related to outer space. I tracked down a picture of a star-forming molecular cloud from NASA that looks like a Christmas tree. Complete with a snowflake in the middle!

I won’t go into detail about this photo but the cluster is located about 3,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Monoceros the Unicorn. Read more about baby stars (protostars) forming in the Christmas Tree in Spaceflight Now’s Article.

Credit: NASA / JPL-Caltech / P.S. Teixeira & C.J. Lada (CfA), E.T. Young (U. Arizona) Also… I flipped the photo upside down to look more like a tree (big base… taper to top). Visit the article to see the original photo.

I love photos like this. I might be on my own here, but when I see things like this it makes me think “proof that God really exists.” It’s just so awesome, in the true meaning of the word.

I don’t think you’re on your own… but I’m not feeling you. :) Yes, the true meaning of the word awesome… I say that word too much! I’m trying to switch to marvelous.
