I’ve been using Apple iCal frequently, trying to keep track of all the events, holidays, birthdays and commitments I have. I publish my personal appointment calendars on the iCal Exchange website (icalx.com) so that Roch can subscribe to them. It’s pretty cool.
So, if we have a birthday party or something to go to, I just add it to my iCal which is automatically published to icalx.com. His calendar program automatically updates his subscriptions and adds all of our appointments. Cool huh?
To keep track of the upcoming hunting season, I made a public calendar that everyone can use – no password required. If you use an application with iCalendar support (which you probably do) you can subscribe to my Montana Big Game Season calendar(.ics). But you probably won’t.
Help and Instructions
Information for those who want to use this feature…
Subscribe to MT Game Season with iCal
All you have to do is copy my link above (right click-save target or copy). Open iCal, go to Calendar > Subscribe >paste the link. Bada-boom, bada-bing.
Subscribe to other calendars on Google
The best place to find public calendars (for example, U.S. holidays, football schedules, movie releases) is Google Calendar. Now… the tricky part is adding these calendars to your own program (like Apple iCal or MS Outlook). Go to Google Calendar and click the “search public calendars” button. Subscribe to whatever you want, go back to your calendar > go to Manage calendars > click calendar’s name > right click on the green ICAL button > save link location > open your own program > paste link to subscribe to calendar. Whew!
Subscribe to other calendars the easier but with less variety way
iCalShare is another option. Go to iCalShare.com > search for calendars > click subscribe.
Either way, you’ll have to check that the calendars you want are still being updated by previewing them before you subscribe.
