Woo hoo!
So, I made the Dean’s List and applied to the National Scholars Honor Society and I was accepted! Cool. I’ve always wanted to join a “society” after I watched the movie Dead Poet’s Society. It sounds cool.
But mostly, they offer scholarships and I need the money! Carol, was this the honors program you were going to join but your funless ex didn’t want to? Putz.
In other news… my poor professor chopped his finger off with a skill saw! I’ve had three substitute teachers this week. Which is kind of nice to get a “preview” of the department professors before I take their classes.

No, this is not the society I was going to join. Mine was specific to the school but probably a stepping stone to an honor society like this. Ha! Funless putz. You are funny! I don’t want to do my spanish homework!!!
I’m going to wear a toga like the emblem picture when I graduate.
The National Scholars Honor Society sounds shady and it seems apparent that they invite anybody who applies. I applied a few weeks ago and yesterday I received an invite. This is odd considering… 1) I graduated from college 7 years ago. 2.) They asked for my GPA (I was honest; I told them I had a 3.03 on a 4 scale. There is absolutely no way that any honor society should accept such a low GPA). They never asked for transcripts to verify this, they never asked for any letters of reference from professors or work supervisors, never asked me to write any essays, and didn’t request a resume or any other evidence of achievement. 3.) They requested a $85 membership fee! Yeah right! The Phi Beta Kappa honor society, which is the best of the best, doesn’t require any fee.
I know what you mean Geoff. After I got my acceptance letter, I looked around a little more to see what they had to offer and it wasn’t much. I never paid the fee and forgot all about it. In fact, I’m so glad you commented because I forgot about my teacher chopping off his finger – it seemed like such a long time ago!
I still might wear a toga when I graduate…
I saw that there was a comment added to this blog and, yeah, I totally forgot about this too. Funny how much happens in a year. Hey, I miss you. How long are you going to be putting off your visit to WI? You should call me since apparently I can’t find time. Jennnnn!!!!!!!
SCAM = NATIONAL SCHOLARS HONOR SOCIETY = SCAM
This ‘honor society’ is definately a scam. Beware.
The National Scholars Honor Society is a scam. A friend recently joined and his college GPA was 2.1 (!) and he spent a great deal of time in college on academic probation. If you already sent them your money, well, do not put on your resume you did that ’cause it will make you look like a sucker. Just take it as a learning experience and move on. In this morally vacuous capitalist wasteland there are an astonishing amount of people who spend every waking moment thinking about how to con you out of your money. If you haven’t joined the NSHS, do not. It could be a legal scam, at least technically, but my guess is that its legal status is dubious at best. I am a member of several legit honor societies and I didn’t pay for one of them.
Well I have to admit that I am skeptical of them as well but I received my nifty embossed certificate with a letter saying that my membership fee had been waived because of my academic achievement. It may very well be a scam but I don’t know why they would send me a pin, certificate and letter for free…
They also have their bylaws posted which is kind of good for a honor society.

So what???
The student society I preside over at my school has its bylaws posted, too. Big freaking deal.
Send us your money, too, scammer!
Funny, “Ben’s” answer is exactly the same as the one at wikianswers. It’s obviously a scam. No legit honor society is going to ask me of all people to join them. I just got card from them in the mail today and wondered what the internet had to say about them. Anyone who gives money to join a fake honor society is a bit foolish.
That’s because I put that response up when I was trying to figure out why I got it for free Luke. I am in no way affiliated with them and haven’t had anything to do with them since I got sent my crap. It probably is a scam, but I got my stuff for free. Def. don’t put it on your resume if you did get it.
