PayPal’s Secure Cards

2/22/10 UPDATE: The PayPal plugin is no longer available!
Okay, I love to make online purchases, we all know this. And I love PayPal because it’s the most secure. But what happens when I want to buy online, but the site doesn’t accept PayPal? Well, I either look for the item someplace else, or give up my debit card number. Ouch.

Well, I just found out that I can use PayPal regardless if the site accepts it or not. What? How does that work?

Paypal will generate a one-time-use MasterCard that I can use to make my purchase. Now, I can use this card instead of my sensitive financial information on an unverified website so I can feel more secure about the transaction. Hey… website… are you a possible identity thief? Ha ha! Well, try and use this card again sucka! What it didn’t work? Booya!

So, they get a credit card and I get a PayPal-debit to my checking account. I just printed a one-time-use card and put it on my tack-board for future use.

A Secure Card is a MasterCard debit card number issued in digital form only. You can generate a single-use card each time you make a purchase online or a multiple-use card for more than one purchase on a specific website. You can use a Secure Card anywhere MasterCard is accepted online.

It’s easy. Just go to your PayPal Account > PayPal Plugin > Secure Cards > Generate New Card. Or, if you have the Windows platform… download the plugin and just click a button on your browser to autofill the transaction info.
