Playing Around with Windows Vista

Of course, I’m incredibly happy with my Mac, but I like to play around with new stuff. My sister-in-law just bought a computer with Windows Vista and I helped her set up her email accounts.

Vista has a lot of “stuff”. I was overwhelmed at first. Outlook had extra toolbars, sidebars, pop-up notices - you name it. Turning off all the extra crap took me about ten minutes. Some applications ran slow, but I’m pretty sure this computer has a celeron processor or something similar.

Pretty? Yes… very pretty. The status bar thing (with the start button at the left) had the glass-look. All the buttons looked fatter and most applications used tabs. I didn’t recognize a few of the programs running (in that bottom-right icon section of the status-bar thing).

Overall, I thought there was too much stuff going on. I felt uncomfortable using the program. I like my computer to do cool things, but I also like a minimalist feel. At least it looks pretty.

What are you doing letting your relatives buy Vista?!?!?! Friends don’t let friends not buy Macs! I foresee that you will end up regretting your decision to aid your sister-in-law with Vista. You will be heeded endlessly to fix things that she breaks (or Microsoft has already broken) in Vista. On that note… I too think that Vista is trying really hard to “one-up” the Mac Aqua interface, unfortunately they completely missed the mark. Unlike Apple, Microsoft is using eye-candy for eye-candies sake.
P.S. What is up with “freebird l whilst l jester” in your posts? It shows up in the RSS feed????

I know, I know. They only ask me for favors when they really need the computer help. They think they’re putting me out, so even though they may have wanted my computer-purchase advice, they didn’t ask. I would have so loved for them to buy Macs, especially since they’re having a huge learning curve anyway going from XP to Vista.

Oh yes! The freebird stuff. Well, that is a digital fingerprint. If some stupid splog robot steels my content via feeds and posts it on some other website, I’ll know by doing a simple google search for “freebird l whilst l jester”.

I know it’s a little annoying. Maybe I should write about it to let my readers know what the heck it is? By the way, I randomly chose those three words - they don’t mean anything.
