Site Redesign

I’ve redesigned one of my client’s websites (doublehhats.com).

The original version wasn’t working well. I used the open source gallery, but since I don’t know crap about php, I had a really hard time customizing the design. Plus, the original reason I implemented a php gallery was so my client could update his photos himself. Which he never did because he didn’t have time. Now, he just emails his new photos and I put them on the site for him. Which means… I get to use a pretty gallery! There were a few cool ideas, but I ended up using Dynamic Drive’s totally awesome gallery.

Then, there was a problem with graphics. And I have to admit, as much as I want to use plain, clean, fast-loading background colors instead of images, it just doesn’t look as nice (or professional). So, I added a background header to the site and gave it a leather-like texture. Then I added a rope to the top and bottom of the main content area to give it a “cowboy” feel. I kept the chocolate browns for the overall color (matching his business card).

I had fun with this one. But, I forgot about the css on, images off. Duh. But school starts on Tuesday (wintersession) so I may not have time to deal with that problem for a while. I should get this problem solved so I can reply to the owner of the site who’s idea I’m going to use. He totally commented on my blog. That’s awesome.

I’m still working on the global navigation. I’m not sure how I want to tackle it. The main point of the site is the gallery. It’s an online brochure. I might offer a couple of links after the text on each page to guide users to other parts of the site (and hopefully to the gallery… and then to the phone number).

Let me know what you guys think. Is it easy to use? Is it “comfortable”? Did you find what you were looking for?
