I no longer shop at TJ Maxx because they compromised my debit card and I had to replace it. Luckily Roch answered the phone when Visa called to ask him… “Uh… are you in Ohio buying stuff at Walmart.” No – cancel my card and thanks for the fraud protection.
As it turns out, TJX (they own TJ Maxx) has to pay almost 10 million in a settlement. Half of the money will go to pay for consumer data protection efforts and the rest will pay to advance enforcement efforts and policy development around protecting personal information.
I hate the ever-increasing law-suits that keep happening. Even though I had to deal with my stupid card compromise. Lawsuits increase insurance prices for everyone. And then professionals start to make choices based on “how can I protect my company from lawsuits” instead of “how can I give the best service to my consumers?”
Ah yes… but I almost forgot that corporations are evil. There’s no way that the consumer and the corporation can have mutual benefit. Only the corporation benefits – we consumers never actually understand what we’re getting into when we deal with corporations. Yes, gimme the TV!!! I don’t care about interest, or the contract, – just give me the TV – I’ll just refinance my home. Oh… I’m a poor victim! Save my house – because I’m not willing to sell my crap to pay my mortgage. You can’t take my two cars, and all my appliances, my too-expensive furniture, and my horse-riding lessons, and my ATV. I can barely make it in this economy – tax the corporations!
Whoa… that got a little out of hand.
Read more about the settlement (but you missed the deadline if you want to make a claim).
