Turkey Season is Fast Approaching

Check out these turkeys in my yard! There are some little ones in the background – little babies! They’re so cute and growing so fast. My brother-in-law came across their egg nest a few months ago while he took care of the horse. So we steered clear and left the mama and her eggs alone.

Then I couldn’t help myself and I peaked at the nest and they already hatched! All the shells sat there broken open and only one of the hatchlings died out of about 15 eggs. Now two hens hang out together with a bunch of little ones following them around.

I want to feed them some corn or something to keep them close to the house (the dang coyotes howl all night long). But I’m not going to be one of those people who feeds the bears because I think they’re my pets and force them to be put down by wildlife management because they become a nuisance.

Thanksgiving is coming up so I’m sure we’ll eat one of these wild turkeys. I love knowing that these animals lived a wonderful life free from cages and torture and that they died humanely from an ethical hunter.

And I got my computer back! Yay for me!
