Two Essential Blog Elements: Search Box & Post Dates

Why Dates Are Important

Okay, I understand that people think their “content don’t stink.” In other words – their information is timeless and relevant regardless of the date it was created. It never becomes outdated. Well, maybe that’s true. If you post a definition of Persimmon – it will undoubtedly provide current information to your users.

Here’s my problem… Really? Users want your stuff so bad they don’t care to reference the date you wrote it? I’m not buying that. If you don’t put the date I think ALL your content is outdated. But if you provide me with a reference point I will know if I need to navigate further into your website to find more up-to-date info. Via the search box…

Search It Or Lose It Mister

One of my all time annoyances – no search box. Ugh. I rarely read the content on the page on which I land. I use the search box to search the entire site.

Why would a website owner neglect this crucial user tool? If they don’t give me a search box – I leave the site and move on to the next guy. Your navigation link system will never be as good as the search box.
